What I’m Reading

Juust in case you were curious, here is what’s going on in my reading life this week:

hack attack

Hack Attack by Nick Davies
This is the culmination of several years of Sisyphean work by Guardian reporter Nick Davies about illegal

phone hacking by newspapers in the UK, along with an extra helping of police corruption. Recommended,

but it doesn’t paint a rosy picture. Don’t read this if you’re feeling unhappy that day, as you are liable

to either slip into a deep depression or have a heart attack borne out of frustration.

It has a fantastic blurb on the back:

“Davies… makes Captain Ahab and Inspector Javert look like quitters.” – Jack Shafer, Slate.

resisterville

Welcome to Resisterville by Kathleen Rodgers
A brief history of war resisters and other counter-culture figures who found their way to Nelson, BC

in the late 1960s and early 1970s. On a macro level, it examines how

communities ultimately form from disparate groups. On a micro level, it has

some great anecdotes about people who were trying to live a more morally honest life.

how to read the bible

How to Read The Bible

A handy, short essay that helps the reader decide on their own approach to reading the Bible. Obviously, this isn’t really something that a lot of people are looking for, but we won’t worry about them. For people who are interested, it’s potentially quite useful.  Great beach read. I’m dead serious.
